Riding the school bus is a privilege, not a right. Students are expected to follow the same behavior standards while riding school buses as they do on campus (in classes, during school activities, functions or events...).  All school rules are implemented while  students ride the bus and at the bus stops.

Consequences for school bus/bus stop misconduct will be imposed by the bus supervisor or the principal’s designee. Serious misconduct may be reported to parents with a request for an urgent school meeting.

School Bus and Bus Stop Rules:

The School bus safety rules are posted in every bus. If these rules are broken, the school district’s discipline procedures will be followed. Consequences are progressive and may include suspension of bus privileges. It is the school bus supervisor/driver’s responsibility to report unacceptable behavior to the school principal/designee.

Rules at the Bus Stop:

  • Get to your bus stop five minutes before your scheduled pick up time. The school bus driver will not wait for late students.
  • Respect the property of others & reflect the image of the school while waiting at your bus stop.
  • Keep your arms, legs and belongings to yourself.
  • Don’t talk to strangers or ask for their assistance while waiting for the school bus
  • Use appropriate language. No foul language or gestures.
  • Stay away from the street, road or highway when waiting for the bus.
  • Wait until the bus stops before approaching the bus.
  • After getting off the bus, move away from the bus.
  • If you must cross the street, always cross in front of the bus where the driver can see you. Wait for the driver's signal to you before crossing the street.
  • No fighting, harassment, intimidation or horseplay.
  • No use of cell phones on the bus.
  • No food or drinks on the bus.
  • No personal toys, mobile phones or dangerous items on the bus
  • Misbehavior, violence & hard language are totally prohibited

Rules of the bus (Immediately follow the directions of the driver/ bus supervisor.)

  • Sit in your seat facing forward while the bus is moving. Talk quietly. No foul language or gestures.
  • Keep all parts of your body inside the bus.
  • Keep your arms, legs and belongings to yourself.
  • No fighting, harassment, intimidation or inappropriate conduct with another student.
  • Do not throw any object on bus’s floor or from windows.
  • No eating, drinking or use of chewing gums on the bus.
  • Do not bring any dangerous objects or personal toys on the school bus.
  • Do not damage the school bus.

Consequences for school bus/bus stop misconduct will apply to all regular routes.

  • 1st offence: verbal warning to the student by driver/bus supervisor
  • 2nd offence: writing a warning to the student/parent by  the school principal/possible assigned seat
  • 3rd offence: 3 school days suspension from riding the school bus
  • 4th offence: 5 school days suspension from riding the school bus
  • 5th offence: 10 school days suspension from riding the school bus & a meeting with a parent or the guardian
  • Further offenses – individually considered. Students may be suspended for longer periods of time, including the remainder of the school year.

Note: When a student goes for 60 days without a report, the student’s consequences may start over at the first offense.

Other Discipline:

Based on the severity of the student’s conduct, more serious consequences may be imposed at any time. Depending on the nature of the offense, consequences such as suspension or expulsion from school may result from school bus/bus stop misconduct.

Vandalism/Bus Damage:

Students damaging school buses will be responsible for the damages. Failure to pay such damages (or make arrangements to pay) within two weeks may result in the loss of bus privileges until damages are paid.

Students will be given a copy of bus and bus stop rules during school bus safety training.

Rules are to be posted on each bus.

Both rules and consequences will be periodically reviewed with students by the driver.
